Story Work
Development is the most critical part of the process; the choices you make here can impact every step of the filmmaking process: from development - to production - to release. At the core of my approach is a belief that the stronger you are in dialogue with your work, voice, and story choices, the more undeniable you’ll be as a storyteller and creative force. Hurrah! I can create bespoke programs around your needs, of course, but here are some of the most popular ways people work with me:
For when you need a fresh perspective and a plan. The Straight Read includes:
Read of script or treatment
A one hour discussion of notes and plan for meaningful progress.
Written notes and analysis
For those who are ready to get really stuck into their projects and/or are tired of waiting for lab deadlines/rejections. The mini-lab experience includes:
Read of script or treatment.
Initial notes and intake session.
Design of follow-up session(s) around targeted areas.
Prep and facilitation of follow-up session(s).
Written notes and analysis.
Desire sanity, momentum, and accountability through a rewrite? Allow me to act as your point guard, running mate, sounding board, cheerleader where I:
Read the script and (with or without giving notes)...
Create regular check-ins from which you can: test out ideas; workshop blocks; navigate notes/pressure; be reminded of your intentions, etc. away from the pressure of invested parties/exhausting loved ones/your own head.
Sometimes getting to talk more freely about your themes, world, characters, etc, in a more broad and curious fashion can help show you what their story needs are in your script. The Scholar is a conversation (or series of conversations) around isolated topic(s) to help realize your intentions and realize their potential.
Feeling stuck? Can’t figure something out? Text me a little bit about what you’re dealing with and I’ll send you back a creative prompt to help you get going. Open to existing clients only.
